Malaysia stepped up to force a 1 - 1 with the Black Sticks Men in Palmerston North in the second match of the five test series.

Malaysia opened the scoring in the 7th minute number Faizal Saari power flicked home from general play.

The Black Sticks went close to equalising shortly after when Joel baker made a nice run to set up Simon Child who went close to scoring in this 100th match for NZ. Child became the youngest player to achieve this milestone.

From that moment the Black Sticks tried to force play in reply, a lot of turnovers came, but the New Zealanders could not find the equaliser.

In the second half New Zealand dominated, holding possession well until the 60th minute when Ryan Archibald put home a rebound from a Richard Petherick penalty corner drag flick.
New Zealand started to hold ball back and arounds 25 into second half

Blair Hopping was a standout for NZ, along with Arun Panchia who played well at left and right half.

The third test is in Napier on Thursday night starting at 6.30pm.
