25.08.2011 - In the first relegation match of the GANT EuroHockey Championships, the team from Belgium won 0:4 (0:2) against Italy. The Belgian women didn’t do much, but enough to control the outplayed Italians.
In the second minute Anouk Reas scored the 0:1 with an accurate hit in the left corner of the goal. Gaelle Valcke converted a short corner and extended the lead. Until the break nothing of note happened. Belgium retained the lead and the Italian team couldn‘t create any chances to score a goal. After the break, the game came to a lower level.
Neither team had real opportunities to score a goal. Just before the end, the Belgian women used their potential to score two more goals. Jil Boon (56. minute) and Hélène Delmee (69.) flicked the ball into the goal. Therefore, Belgium won 0:4 and has a good chance to remain in the championship class. Italy needs a good victory against Ireland to avoid relegation on Saturday.
