Spanish ladies reach semi-finals as leader of the pool

23.08.2011 - Spanish ladies have completed the came preliminary round of pool A. Mainly due to better use of corners they through with a narrow 2-1 victory over Azerbaijan, and thus, will play in the semi finals. At the beginning, the fans watched a very balanced game, but there were no real opportunities, apart from penalty corners. Until the break were still no score.

The second half the game was a little bit faster. Pilar Sanchez was the one who put the Spaniards with a short corner. But the ladies of Azerbaijan did not give up and generated good opportunities which paid off with a goal from Mi Seon Aliyeva. It stayed exciting with Anabel Flores scoring a short corner four minutes from time. Spain made sure of this narrow lead to the finish and come with a lot of confidence now into the semi-final against the German team.
